Job description
Lead Developer
Salary: $105,000 - $130,000 USD
At Shift Lab, we believe the best products come from great collaboration. We’re a close-knit team of passionate developers, designers, and innovators working remotely across the U.S. If you’re a highly skilled Lead Developer looking for a place where your voice matters, your ideas are valued, and teamwork is at the core of everything we do—we want to hear from you.
About the role
As our Lead Developer, you’ll be at the heart of our collaborative process, working closely with designers, project managers, and other developers to bring cutting-edge solutions to life. You’ll not only guide the technical direction of our projects but also mentor and support your teammates through thoughtful code reviews, knowledge sharing, and agile planning.
What you’ll do
Lead with Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with a team of talented developers to design, build, and optimize both front-end and back-end solutions.
Empower Others: Lead by example in providing peer code reviews (via PRs) and offering mentorship to junior developers, ensuring we maintain a high standard of quality and continuous learning.
Sprint Together: Engage in Agile development practices, helping define project tasks and accurately estimating work in a highly collaborative environment.
Develop & Deliver: Use your expert skills in Next.js, Typescript, React, and Tailwind CSS to craft clean, scalable, and innovative code.
Write & Share: Create clear, actionable Jira stories, break down complex tasks, and articulate technical requirements that benefit the entire team.
What we’re looking for:
Experience: You have 5+ years of experience building full-stack applications and are confident leading development efforts.
Technical Expertise: You’re an expert in Next.js, Typescript, React, Tailwind CSS, and Contentful—able to solve complex problems and deliver solutions.
Agile & Git: You thrive in an Agile development environment and have solid experience with Git workflows.
Team Player: You communicate well, whether you’re breaking down technical requirements or giving feedback during a code review.
Mentorship: You believe in lifting others up, offering constructive feedback, and ensuring everyone grows together.
Education: Whether you have a formal education in software development or equivalent real-world experience, your skills are what matter most.
Why Shift Lab?
Fully Remote & Flexible: Work from anywhere in the U.S. and collaborate with teammates from across the country.
A Truly Collaborative Culture: We believe in building together, not just individually. At Shift Lab, every team member’s voice is heard, and every contribution matters.
Competitive Salary: $105,000 - $130,000 USD based on experience, plus benefits.
Room to Grow: You’ll work on exciting, impactful projects and have endless opportunities to expand your skill set.
Innovative Projects: Help create amazing, tech-driven solutions for a wide range of industries, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
About Shift Lab
At Shift Lab, we craft beautiful, user-driven experiences, connecting the dots between client ambition, conceptual design thinking, and thoughtful code. From extending a creative director’s vision in a digital product to reinventing systems that improve our quality of life, we create innovative user experiences and technical solutions.
We are strongest when we collaborate with creative partners and business leaders who value transparency, iteration, and craft. We’re for those who seek a team of creative, but technical, experimental yet focused; esoteric digital experts who know how to explain things.
Our projects are typically bespoke to the creative or cultural technology challenge at hand. An agile development process keeps us open and responsive to every evolving user need. We’re headquartered on the East Coast of the United States, but our team is fully remote across all US time zones.
We encourage those from underrepresented communities — women, people of color, LGBTQIA+, immigrants, those with disabilities, and people at all the intersections in between — to apply. Even if you don’t think your current skill set checks every box below, but this role seems to align with your strengths, we want to hear from you.
